Gary Stollman
Man who in 1987 staged a dramatic hostage situation at KNBC-TV’s Los Angeles studio.
Gary Stollman was in his mid-40s when, armed with a handgun and a handwritten letter, he stormed into the newsroom during a live broadcast, demanding his manifesto be read on air.
The rambling letter detailed Stollman’s so-called conspiracy theories about government and corporate persecution, claiming he was being “electronically harassed” by shadowy forces.
It was on August 19, 1987, during the 4 p.m. edition of KNBC’s Channel 4 News.
Stollman pointed a handgun (later revealed to be an empty BB gun) at David Horowitz, a well-known consumer reporter for KNBC.
Stollman demanded that Horowitz read a handwritten letter on air.
