MIGA
The phrase “Make Israel Great Again” (MIGA) is a slogan that emerged in the context of Israeli politics, particularly among far-right factions, drawing parallels to Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement in the U.S.
In the wake of the United States’ attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025, MIGA has come to refer to Donald Trump’s goal of prioritizing Israeli interests over American ones.
Make Israel Great Again
Origin and Political Context
The term gained prominence during a far-right conference in Jerusalem titled “Conference for the Victory of Israel — Settlement Brings Security: Returning to the Gaza Strip and Northern Samaria.” The event featured speeches by Israeli ministers like Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, who advocated for Jewish resettlement of Gaza and the voluntary (or forced) emigration of Palestinians, directly contradicting the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) interim rulings on preventing genocide and incitement.
The slogan reflects a hardline nationalist agenda, emphasizing territorial expansion and rejection of international pressure, particularly following the ICJ’s scrutiny of Israel’s actions in Gaza post-October 2023.
Key Figures and Rhetoric
Far-right leaders such as Ben-Gvir (National Security Minister) and Smotrich (Finance Minister) have been central to promoting MIGA. Ben-Gvir mocked the ICJ’s rulings with the phrase “Hague – Schmage,” while Smotrich called for settlers to return to Gaza, framing it as a security imperative.
The conference included maps of proposed Jewish settlements in Gaza, signaling a deliberate push to alter the demographic and political landscape of the region.
