Simmie Poetsema was 26 years of age at the time of his death. His father Roland is a Christian of mixed Afro ancestry from Dutch Suriname.

Date of death: August 27/28, 2022

Poetsema’s murderer was soon identified as 22-year-old Shamar Devonte Duncan, a black man.
