Mike Hyatt
Film-restoration artist born Michael Elliot Hyatt.
Mike Hyatt worked as a restorationist on films such as “Vertigo” (1996 film restoration, uncredited) and “My Fair Lady” (1994 film restoration, uncredited) . However, he is most famously associated with his extensive work on the restoration of the 1963 movie “The Day of the Triffids.”
Hyatt spent a significant amount of time and effort on this project, reportedly picking tens of thousands of tiny particles out of the soft emulsion of the original negative by hand. He had screened a 35mm print of his work in Hollywood. He held substantial rights to the picture and was hoping for an eventual DVD and Blu-ray release, as well as making restored prints available for theatrical screenings.
Unfortunately, Mike Hyatt passed away, and his work on “The Day of the Triffids” was left unfinished .
