Aguirre was arraigned on July 18. The court ordered a mental competency referral on August 14. There was a non-appearance hearing on September 25 for a 1368 PC, which is to determine whether the defendant is mentally competent to stand trial. The next hearing date is scheduled for November 21, 2023.

UPDATE: Aguirre died while in the custody of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department on September 29, 2023. He hanged himself and was taken to Los Angeles General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
