Mark Sanchez
Former NFL quarterback who initiated an altercation with a truck driver on October 4, 2025, in Indianapolis
Detailed Summary of the Incident
On October 4, 2025, at approximately 12:35 AM, IMPD officers were dispatched to 301 W Washington Street (Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery) on a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, they found a male, later identified as Mark Sanchez, suffering from several stab wounds to his upper right torso. A second male, P.T., was located in the alley west of the location with a laceration to his left cheek. Both parties were transported to different hospitals, with Sanchez listed in critical condition.
The Investigation Begins
Aggravated Assault Detective Joshua Stayton was assigned to the case. The investigation revealed that the incident was captured on surveillance video from the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. A witness, B.B., who was parked in the alley, reported seeing the two men interacting, initially thinking they were recording each other with their phones before a physical altercation ensued.
The Confrontation as Described by P.T. and Corroborated by Video
P.T., an employee for a commercial cooking oil recycling company, was backed into the Westin Hotel’s loading dock performing his duties when he was approached by Sanchez.
Sanchez, who was well-dressed and groomed, opened the driver’s door of P.T.’s truck.
P.T., who was not wearing his hearing aids, had to lean in close and noted that Sanchez smelled strongly of alcohol and had slurred speech.
Sanchez claimed he had spoken to the hotel manager and that P.T. was not allowed to be there. The situation escalated when:
Unlawful Entry: Sanchez physically climbed into the cab of P.T.’s truck without permission to look around, ignoring P.T.’s demands to get out.
Blocked Access: When P.T. repeatedly tried to retrieve his cellphone from the truck to call his manager for clarification, Sanchez blocked his access.
Attempted Help:
P.T. attempted to walk to the Marriott security office to get help, but Sanchez followed him closely the entire time, also blocking his attempt to enter the truck through the passenger side.
The Physical Altercation
The confrontation turned physical at the driver’s side door when Sanchez shoved P.T. back. At this point, P.T. felt he was in physical danger and escalated his defense:
He first used pepper spray on Sanchez. This only briefly paused Sanchez’s advance.
As Sanchez continued to come toward him, P.T., thinking “this guy is trying to kill me,” pulled a knife and struck Sanchez two or three times.
A violent struggle ensued. Surveillance video shows Sanchez grabbing and throwing P.T. towards a wall, and later throwing him to the ground in the alley. During this fight, P.T. stated he was on the ground and could only see Sanchez’s feet coming at him, making him fear for his life.
When P.T. managed to get to his feet, he stabbed Sanchez one final time. Sanchez then looked at him with shock, turned, and fled northbound up the alley.
Aftermath and Arrest
Evidence technicians processed the scene, and search warrants were executed to collect the knife from the truck and Sanchez’s clothing and phone from the hospital. Based on the evidence—including the surveillance video which corroborated P.T.’s account of being the pursued and assaulted party—Mark Sanchez was placed under arrest for Battery, Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle, and Public Intoxication.
