Retired law enforcement officer who was unlawfully arrested in 2025 for sharing a political meme on Facebook.

The arrest warrant aleges that Larry Gene Bushart Jr., in sharing the meme, was threatening mass violence at a school.

He was arrested at his home on September 21.

The meme “We have to get over it” features an image of former President Donald Trump with the quote “We have to get over it,” referring to a statement he made after a school shooting in Perry, Iowa, in 2024.

Larry Bushart was kept in jail for over a month before the charges were dropped.
