TIMELINE

• July 17, 2018 – Cyrus Chady files a malicious prosecution lawsuit against Pedram Shamekh, PNP Precious Metals, Bahram Zendedel, Thomas J. Weiss, Shawn Zaman, and others, arising from an earlier lawsuit involving an alleged gold transaction.
• 2018–2020 – The defendants file demurrers, anti-SLAPP motions, and appeals. The case proceeds through multiple appellate proceedings before returning to the trial court.
• 2021–2022 – Discovery disputes dominate the litigation. The court conducts multiple Informal Discovery Conferences (IDCs), grants motions to deem Requests for Admission admitted, grants motions to compel discovery, and awards monetary sanctions after repeated failures by Pedram Shamekh and PNP Precious Metals to comply with discovery.
• May 2022 – Thomas J. Weiss, Shawn Zaman, and the Law Offices of Thomas J. Weiss settle with the plaintiff and are dismissed from the case pursuant to a stipulated dismissal.
• August 5, 2022 – The court grants terminating sanctions against Pedram Shamekh and PNP Precious Metals after finding repeated discovery abuse and noncompliance with court orders. Their answers are stricken, defaults are ordered, and additional monetary sanctions are awarded.
