Armound Avaness
California dentist who died from a cocaine overdose in November 2021.
Armound Avaness was born in Tehran, Iran.
He was ethnically Armenian, making him of Iranian Armenian descent.
Drunkenly crashed his car into the front yard of a local resident.
The circumstances underlying the conviction are that at approximately 2:00 am on the morning of March 9, 2007, officers from the Glendale Police Department responded to a call from a homeowner stating that someone had crashed their automobile into a fence in the homeowner’s front yard.
Once on the scene, the homeowner informed the officers that the driver of the vehicle, Respondent, was a neighbor and that after the accident, the driver had gotten out of the vehicle and walked home. The officers went to Respondent’s home to question him and immediately detected the smell of alcohol on Respondent’s breath. Respondent stated that he had been drinking, whereupon the officers performed a series of field sobriety tests, which
Respondent failed. Respondent later provided two breath samples to an alcohol screening device, which registered Respondent’s blood alcohol content at .19% and .18%, respectively.
