Stairs Are Not My Friends
September 25th, 2017
There is no GOOD place on one’s body to have stitches. I’ve had them, they hurt when you move. One of my least favorite places, however, is on the sole of my foot. But more about that later…
There’s a saying in physical therapy, “the good go up, the bad go down.” This refers to climbing stairs when one of your legs is recovering. Usually, when going up the stairs, you lead with your “good” leg and bring the “bad” one up.
I use this mantra every day of my life. I have arthritis in my left knee (a result of years of bad walking due to a hip fracture in 1975, but that’s another story), so I ascend stairs leading with my right leg. Been doing this for decades.
Then I had minor surgery on my right foot. The incision, however, was made on the sole and I now have stitches on the bottom of my foot for three weeks. Whoopee.
So now, when faced with a flight of stairs, I have a dilemma. Which foot is my “good” foot?
