Jemmy Jimenez Rosa
Massachusetts mother and legal U.S. permanent resident who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for 10 days in August 2025 despite having a valid, recently renewed green card.
Jemmy Jimenez Rosa was detained at Boston Logan International Airport upon returning from a family vacation in Mexico. Her detention appeared to be related to a 22-year-old marijuana possession conviction that was fully pardoned and later vacated by a Massachusetts court due to inadequate legal representation at the time.
During her detention, she suffered from lack of access to medication and basic facilities, and her health deteriorated, requiring hospitalization.
Her case has drawn widespread attention as an example of aggressive immigration enforcement affecting even lawful permanent residents, raising concerns about due process and treatment in immigration custody.
She was eventually released after legal efforts and has since reunited with her family while recuperating.
